In my studies, I have read or listened to over 30 sports psychology and peak performance books. While they all contained valuable insights and information, there are 5 that stand out above the rest:

  1. With Winning in Mind, by Lanny Bassham

Written by an Olympic gold medalist, this book contains detailed instruction on several actionable strategies you can start to use right away.

  1. The Confident Mind, by Dr. Nate Zinsser

This book is written by a Ph.D. in sports psychology and is also filled with strategies to use and adapt to your own game.

  1. How Champions Think, by Bob Rotella

The author takes you inside the minds of champions to see how they think.  Very illuminating use of case studies with professional athletes, but light on actual strategies.

  1. The Inner Game of Tennis, by W. Timothy Gallwey

This book takes a fascinating dive into the roles of the conscious and unconscious minds and is applicable to any sport.

  1. Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia, by David L. Cook

This is a favorite due to the author’s use of fictional story telling to illustrate mental performance techniques and life coaching. Easy, exciting read.
